The drawn India-New Zealand first Test in
Kanpur had a number of performances that reflected on the latest ICC Men’s Test
player rankings. Ravindra Jadeja jumped one place to be ranked 19th in the bowler’s list, while also climbing to second in the all-rounder’s standings, behind only West Indies’ Jason Holder.

Jadeja scored a fifty in the first innings and picked up four wickets in the second innings. Ravichandran Ashwin is ranked the third-best all-rounder in the world.

In the batting rankings, debutant Shreyas Iyer’s match-winning effort saw him enter the batting rankings at the 74th spot, while opener Shubman Gill (up six places to 66th) and Wriddhiman Saha (up nine places to 99th) also improved significantly after scoring fifties.

Steve Smith replaced Kane Williamson in the second spot and is only behind England skipper Joe Root. Tom Latham’s 95 and 52 in the Kanpur Test helped him re-enter the top ten, climbing to ninth from 14th.

Meanwhile, New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson
who picked up six wickets in the first Test against India – broke into the top
ten in the bowlers’ rankings, climbing six places to ninth. The Auckland-born
pacer, who was player of the match in the World Test Championship final, also
became the fastest New Zealand pacer to reach 50 Test wickets.

Tim Southee’s eight-wicket haul saw him close
the gap to Ashwin in second spot to just one point. The bowler’s list is led by
Australian captain Pat Cummins.

Pakistan pace spearhead Shaeen Shah Afridi broke into the
top five of the bowling rankings for the first time in his career on the back of
seven wickets against Bangladesh.

The 21-year-old left-arm pacer overtook
Neil Wagner, Kagiso Rabada and James Anderson to reach his career-best
rankings. He now has 83 Test wickets in 20 matches at an average of 24.34.
