Iga Swiatek, the Polish tennis player, will be squaring off against Ons Jabeur in the final of the US Open women’s singles. Swiatek, defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals and is now vying to get her hands on the third Grand Slam title of her career. Swiatek has till date won two French Open finals. The current world #1 in women’s tennis can add $2.6 million to her kitty if she wins the US Open this time. This amount will be the same prize money the men’s singles winner will also be receiving.

Swiatek played in the ITF Women’s circuit from 2016 to 2018. She has played in seven ITF finals to date and has won all of them. NEK Ladies Open (Hungary) and the Montreux Ladies Open (Switzerland) were the last two ITF tournaments she played in.

In 2019, Swiatek played in the Ladies Open Lugano, which was her first WTA tournament. In the same year, she also qualified for the Australian Open. She performed well in the French Open that year (reached the fourth round), but did not manage to repeat the performance at the US (lost in second round), Wimbledon (lost the first match), or Australian Opens (also lost in the second round).
Swiatek won the French Open in 2020 and also entered the top 20 rankings in women’s tennis. Since Rafael Nadal in 2005, Swiatek became the youngest ever Roland Garros singles champion.
In 2021, Swiatek reached the doubles final of the French Open, but was not able to clinch victory. The year, however, saw her reach the WTA Finals for the first time ever.

The young champion is 21 years of age. She was born in Warsaw and is the daughter of Tomasz and Dorota Swiatek. Tomasz Swiatek is an Olympian who competed in rowing at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Swiatek is currently based out of Rszyn, a small village in her native country, Poland.
