The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics got off to a start with a dazzling opening ceremony on February 4. As the games reached its third day, several medal events took place. Canada’s Max Parrot, a cancer survivor, secured a gold in the men’s slopestyle event, while Russia’s Kamila Valieva became the first woman to land a quad in the Olympics after winning gold the figure skating team event. Slovenia, meanwhile, won gold the ski jumping mixed team event, which made its debut in the Olympics for the first time. Beat Feuz of Switzerland won the men’s downhill snowboarding event, while China won gold in the men’s 1,000-meter short track speedskating final.
