The Chennai Super Kings defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2021 final to clinch their fourth title. After setting a 193-run target in the first innings, MS Dhoni and company managed to contain KKR for 165/9 in 20 overs.
From 91 for no loss in the 11th over, KKR slumped to 125 for 8 in the 17th over in a dramatic batting collapse to lose the final. For CSK, Shardul Thakur took three wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Josh Hazlewood got two each.
As soon as KKR’s Lockie Ferguson knocked the last delivery to the leg-side for a single, celebrations began in the CSK camp.
“Before I start talking about CSK, it’s important I talk about KKR. For the position they were in after the first phase, it is very difficult to come back and do what they have done. If any team deserved to win the IPL this year, I feel it was KKR. I think the break helped them. Coming to CSK we shuffled a few players, we used them in different ways. Important was to take the responsibility. I felt we had match-winners game after game,” CSK skipper MS Dhoni said after the game.
