In a security breach, three fans have burst into the field towards the end of the second day of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka and one of them even managed to take a selfie with former India captain and star batter Virat Kohli before being taken away by the security personnel.

The incident happened in the sixth over of Sri Lanka’s second innings when Kusal Mendis was taking treatment after being hit by a Mohammed Shami delivery.

Sensing an opportunity to see their star player from close, three fans managed to breach the fenced area and ran towards the players.

One of them managed to get close to Kohli, who was standing in the slip cordon. The fan took his mobile out and asked the senior batter for a selfie, and Kohli, much to his delight, obliged.

The security personnel rushed towards the players and, after a bit of jostle, managed to get control of the fans.

One spectator had also managed to enter the playing area during the first Test in Mohali.

Meanwhile, chasing a massive 447 runs target, Sri Lanka were reduced to 28 for 1 by India at stumps on Day 2 of the pink-ball Test at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Captain Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis were batting on 10 and 16 respectively at the close of play, needing 419 more runs to win the match.

India declared their second innings at 303 for 9 during the final session when Axar Patel was out for 9 after India had played 68.5 overs in their second innings. Mohammed Shami remained not out on 16.

Shreyas Iyer top-scored with an 87-ball 67 while star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant struck a counter-attacking 31-ball 50. Captain Rohit Sharma contributed 46. Before being dismissed Pant’s 28-ball fifty saw him breaking Kapil Dev’s 40-year-old India record of fastest Test fifty.

For Sri Lanka, Praveen Jayawickrama was the most successful bowler with figures of 4/78 while Lasith Embuldeniya took three wickets.
