Ajaz Patel lit up Wankhede Stadium by taking a memorable 10-wicket haul on the second day of the second and final Test against India, on Saturday. By doing so, he not only became the first Kiwi bowler to achieve the feat but also joined England Jim Laker (1956) and Anil Kumble (1999) in the elite list of bowlers who have taken 10 wickets in an innings.

The Mumbai-born bowler had his juggernaut mode on as he kept picking up wickets at will and sending the Indian batters back to the pavilion.

By doing so, he surpassed the previous best bowling performance that was held by a Kiwi bowler – Sir Richard Hadlee (9/52 at Brisbane, 1985).

How the path to glory looked like for Ajaz Patel.

That was an incredible performance by Ajaz Patel. On his way out, he not only held his head high by becoming the only 3rd bowler in Tests to take 10 wickets in an innings, but also raised the ball high to show his acknowledgement towards his side and the fans at the stadium.

On the first day, the left-arm bowler dismissed Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer.

During a post-match conference, Ajaz had said: “The job is only half done. We got to make sure we turn up tomorrow and fight hard for the remaining six wickets.”

And he stayed true to his words, picking up the remaining six wickets in style.

Ajaz Patel kept bowling non-stop and accounted for all the 10 Indian wickets. India, after losing two quick wickets to Ajaz, were bolstered by Mayank Agarwal and Axar Patel’s half-ton partnership.

But after the lunch break, Ajaz Patel showed his skills with the ball and kept trapping the batters in his web of spin.

This is the order in which the Indian batters were dismissed on the second day.
