India will face Pakistan in their Asia Cup 2022 campaign for the 2nd time in this year’s tournament after both teams made it to the Super-4 of the tournament which is also a round-robin stage.

The first clash between the two arch-rivals happened on Sunday evening, August 28, 2022, at the Dubai International Stadium, with India’s wounds barely having healed after India had been thoroughly embarrassed in their last meeting at the 2021 T20 World Cup. On that occasion, Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets at the same venue without having to break a sweat.

And so India came better prepared for this clash, and always seemed to be a step ahead of their rivals. India eventually won the match by 5 wickets with 2 balls to spare as Hardik Pandya stamped his mark with both bat and ball.

However, Pakistan has a chance to bite back as we enter the Asia Cup Super-4 stage. India will still be missing out on star bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, both of whom are currently injured, and key all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also been ruled out of the tournament due to injury, with replacement Axar Patel slotting in his place.

Pakistan will also be missing out on their talismanic left-arm quick bowler Shaheen Afridi, who was the star of the previous match between the two sides. Apart from the 22-year-old, Imad Wasim and Mohammad Wasim also continue to be on the sidelines.

Here is the head-to-head record of India and Pakistan as they prepare to face each other for the second time this week in the Asia Cup 2022 Super-4 at Dubai International Stadium.

India played their last bilateral series against Pakistan in 2013 and since then, the arch-rivals have played each other 13 times across all competitions. Five of these 13 matches have come in the Asia Cup during this time, however, they have faced each other a total of 14 times in the tournament’s history.

India leads 9-5 against Pakistan in the Asia Cup across both ODI and T20I formats.

Pitch conditions

The timing of the T20I World Cup in 2021 and the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) heavily indicates that the chasing team gets an advantage at the Dubai International Stadium. While some tackiness can be found early into a match starting after 6 pm, dew will be a concern for the team batting first.

Heat can turn out to be a problem for both teams. The city is expected to have an average of 36 degrees celsius temperatures in the evening for the duration of the Asia Cup 2022.
