Team India is in their final leg for the preparation of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue are facing South Africa for a three-match T20I series, followed by a three-match ODI series, which will be their last preparation ahead of the World Cup that begins on October 16. While the Indian bowling has raised concerns recently, batting, on the other hand, has been handed a new lifeline with Virat Kohli’s return to form.

The former India captain is now on the pole position to break as many as three T20I records against South Africa. If he manages to break all of these records, it would be a huge boost for the Indian side ahead of the T20 World Cup. Here are the three records Virat Kohli is eyeing to break against South Africa.

Highest Indian scorer against South Africa in T20I format

Kohli concluded the T20I series against Australia with an inspiring knock of 63 runs off 48 balls, with a strike of 131.25. If he replicates his earlier form against South Africa in the T20Is, he will be in contention to become India’s highest scorer against South Africa in the format.

Currently, captain Rohit Sharma holds the record of being India’s highest scorer against South Africa with 362 runs from 13 matches. Kohli has scored 254 runs against the Proteas in 10 matches, 108 runs and three matches less than Sharma.

Indian cricketer with most half-centuries against South Africa

Kohli already holds the record of scoring the most half-centuries (33) in T20Is. Out of these 33 half-centuries, only two have come against South Africa in his career. However, if the Indian maverick can manage to score one more half-century against the Proteas in the upcoming series, he will become the Indian cricketer with most half-centuries against South Africa.

Currently, he is tied with Rohit Sharma, who also has scored two half centuries against the Proteas.

Highest scorer in the history of T20Is

The Indian batter has scored 3,660 runs in 107 T20I matches in his career. However, the top spot in most T20I runs is held by captain Rohit Sharma, who has scored 3,694 runs in the shortest format of the sport till now. If Kohli manages to score 34 runs in the first T20I match against South Africa, he will become the highest scorer in the history of T20Is, surpassing Rohit Sharma.
