As India face West Indies in an ODI series with a relatively young squad in Port of Spain, beginning from July 22, the Men in Blue have the opportunity to make two brand new world records.

Several senior players have been rested in the ODI series against the Windies, such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. However, the Men in Blue are still being considered as the favourites as West Indies is currently facing a tough time in the format.

India have won 11 consecutive bilateral ODI series against West Indies between 2007 and 2022, which is also the joint most consecutive series win against a team. Their arch rivals, Pakistan, also have emerged victorious in 11 consecutive ODI series wins over Zimbabwe. A victory in the upcoming series against West Indies will help India topple Pakistan in the list to become the team with most wins in successive ODI series against a particular team.

India’s list of achievements will not stop there as they just need to win the opening game of the ODI series to script yet another record. If they beat the Windies in the series opener at the Queen’s Park Oval on July 22, India will overtake Afghanistan to become the team with the best win/loss ratio in an away venue since 2007.

Currently, India is tied with Afghanistan with a win/loss ratio of 4.5, which the Men in Blue have registered in two away venues, Harare in Zimbabwe and Port of Spain in the West Indies.

A victory in the opening match will make India’s win/loss ratio 5.0, the most by a team in any away venue, since 2007. India have lost only two matches in Port of Spain since 2007, both of which came during the 2007 World Cup, against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Since then, they have gone on to win all the matches played at the Queen’s Park Oval.

Another interesting fact about the series is that the West Indies have not won a single match in ODIs in the Port of Spain in the last 14 years. Their previous ODI win at the Queen’s Park Oval came in 2008 against Sri Lanka.
