Indian golfer Diksha Dagar was finalised for the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday. The 20-year-old will participate in the women’s golf competition beginning August 5.
Indian Golf Union (IGU) confirmed Dagar’s participation.

“Paula Reto (RSA) has withdrawn from Tokyo & Austria declined reallocation for Sarah Schober; position has been reallocated by IGF to our Diksha Dagar. Best wishes to her,” IGU tweeted.
The IGU will be making arrangements for Dagar to reach Tokyo in time for the Games.
Diksha Dagar, who was born with a hearing impairment, also represented India in the Deaf Olympics, 2017. She won a silver medal there. The No 1 amateur ladies golfer in India will join Aditi Ashok in India’s golf team in Tokyo. This will be Dagar’s first Olympic appearance. Her to-be partner Ashok will be playing at her second Olympics.

Dagar’s qualification was possible after South African golfer Paula Reto decided to withdraw and Austria declined to make a reallocation for her.
Dagar represented India at the 2018 Asian Games. She has won two titles on the Ladies European Tour. Her participation at Tokyo means that Dagar would have to withdraw from ISPS Handa Invitational in Ireland.

Diksha Dagar may not have to face any long quarantine, PTI reports. However, her father and coach Naren Dagar will need to get his formalities done with the IGU and IOA to be able to help her.
Meanwhile, playing in his second Olympics, India’s Anirban Lahiri got off to a solid start, carding a 4-under 67 in the first round to be placed tied sixth at the weather-hit Tokyo Games golf competition at the Kasumigaseki Country Club here on Thursday.
