Watch:

Former quarterback and close friend of Campbell, Dwayne Haskins, passed away in a terrible accident this offseason.

During warm-ups before the game against the team that Haskins played for before he passed, Campbell wore a Haskins t-shirt.

Both Haskins and Campbell played together on the Ohio State Buckeyes team from 2016-18. With Campbell as his preferred target, Haskins had one of the best passing seasons in Buckeye and NCAA history. Campbell gained more than 1000 yards and 12 touchdowns while Haskins passed for over 4800 yards and 50 scores.

It was the first time since Haskins’ passing in April that the wide receiver is facing the Steelers, the former’s last professional team.

With three touchdown receptions in 11 games, Campbell, a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, is having his best season as a pro.

Who was Dwayne Haskins?

Dwayne Haskins played for three years in the National Football League from 2019-2021. He played the position of quarterback.

Haskins was taken in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, but he was cut after less than two seasons because of his inconsistency on the field and concerns about his work ethic. In 2021, he committed to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On March 16, 2022, the team issued a one-year, restricted free-agent tender to Haskins. He would have served as the backup to QB Mason Rudolph.

In three years, he played in 16 games, starting 13 of them. He completed 267 of his 444 passing attempts during this time to throw for a total of 12 TDs while also collecting 14 interceptions.

Death:

Haskins was hit by a dump truck while trying to cross Interstate 595 on foot near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on April 9, 2022, at around 7 a.m.  Haskins later passed away as a direct result of his wounds. He had a blood alcohol content of.24 and tested positive for ketamine and norketamine, according to a toxicology report. His demise was deemed accidental.
