Josef Newgarden overtook Marcus defending race champion Marcus Ericsson in the final lap to win the Indy 500 on Sunday. Alexander Rossi came fifth.
The 107th Indy 500 race was thrilling. It witnessed three crashes in the last 16 laps and restarts were criticized by several drivers, including Ericsson and Rossi.

Felix Rosenqvist first got into a wall and Kyle Kirkwood, trying to avoid spinning, clipped his tire. Pato O’Ward, who held the lead over Marcus Ericsson and Joseph Newgarden, when the race restarted was overtaken. In order, to get his place back with eight laps left, he made an aggressive move to pass Ericsson and chase down Newgarden.

He crashed. However, one final restart saw Newgarden overtake Ericsson for the win.

How much money does the winner make?
He will receive prize money of $3 million (est.), as per several reports. The actual payout, however, depends on factors including pole winner, laps led and sponsorships. Ericsson won $3.1 million after his win in 2022.
