Jofra Archer is not
available for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Still, he managed to trigger a
bidding war in the mega auction. Mumbai Indians, which opted for the ‘wait and watch’ policy till the second half of the final day of the auction, went all out for
the England pacer, making the winning bid of Rs 8 crore. Archer
will not play IPL this seaon because of fitness issues. He has been out of action over the
last 10 months.

The English pace spearhead will be available to play from the 2023 season.

Archer was a part of an
intense bidding process when auctioneer Charu Sharma took his name. The pacer’s
bid started at Rs 2 crore and on expected lines, Rajasthan Royals, Archer’s
former team, went after him. Royals were up to Rs 5.25 crore.

When the bidding reached INR
6.5 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad jumped in and made things tough for MI. However,
the Nita Ambani-owned team had a clear plan and they finally signed Archer for
INR 8 crore. This means Archer will join forces with star Indian fast bowler
Jasprit Bumrah from the next season. Archer also earned more money than Pat
Cummins and Mohammed Shami.

Jofra Archer pacer can set
the speed gun on fire and his control and accuracy make him an even greater
asset. Be it taking wickets with the new ball or restricting runs in the death
overs, Archer is a captain’s delight in every juncture of the game. If that’s
not enough, the 26-year-old is also a handy batter lower down the order
alongside being a phenomenal fielder. Moreover, he was the Player of the
Tournament in IPL 2020. Hence, MI looked at the bigger picture and got him on
board.
