The Indian Premier League is set to commence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a couple of days time and staying true to tradition, the first match will be a repeat of the previous year’s final which will see Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians take on MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings.

With seven IPL trophies and nine finals between them, the opening match promises to be a mouth-watering contest.

Chennai Super Kings lost to Mumbai Indians by one run in the IPL final of 2019. While both the teams have managed to retain their core members, there will be a few big names missing like Suresh Raina and Lasith Malinga. While there are many potential match-winners in both teams, Ravindra Jadeja will be on the cusp of completing a monumental record. Jadeja is just 73 runs away from completing 2000 runs in the IPL. The left-arm spinner already has 108 wickets to his name making him the tenth highest wicket-taker in the tournament. With 1927 runs to his name Jadeja averages 24 runs per match in the IPL.

While chances of Jadeja scoring 73 runs in the first match is low, as he is yet to score a half-century or century in the tournament, Jadeja is the only player in the tournament who crossed the 1500-run threshold without scoring a fifty.

Jadeja was recently facilitated by the Chennai Super Kings franchise for achieving the unique feat of having 100 wickets along with 1900 runs in the IPL.

However, once Jadeja crosses the 2000 run-mark in this year’s IPL, he will be the only player to have achieved a unique double of 2000 runs and more than 100 wickets.

Jadeja has become an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings side over the years scalping 15 wickets last season. The allrounder began his career in the IPL with the Rajasthan Royals back in 2008.
