The Mumbai Indians claimed their fifth IPL title, second in consecutive years after defeating Delhi Capitals in the final on Tuesday. Rohit Sharma and company won the match by six wickets at the Dubai International Stadium.

This season was quite a memorable one, starting from the IPL being postponed and relocated to a side like Chennai Super Kings having their worst season. To name some standouts this season the names of Kagiso Rabada and KL Rahul are indispensable.

While KL Rahul grabbed his maiden Orange cap this season, it was Delhi’s Kagiso Rabada who ended on the top of the bowling charts. The Punjab skipper scored 670 runs in 14 games at a stunning average just pipping 55. His best knock came in the first leg against Royal Challengers Bangalore when Rahul scored a phenomenal 132* taking Punjab past the winning line. Although Kings XI Punjab couldn’t qualify for the playoffs, KL definitely inspired as a captain and a batsman.

It was Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan in the order after Rahul.

Kagiso Rabada won the purple cap, dismissing 30 batsmen in 17 games at an average of 18.26. The Protea started the tournament being Delhi’s main man in the depth but donned the role of a middle over bowler eventually. His partnership with countryman Anrich Nortje formed the foundation of Delhi’s bowling. Kagiso Rabada’s consistency throughout the tournament reflected on the side’s performance. It was only Jasprit Bumrah with 27 wickets, who could get near Rabada’s proficiency.

Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Anrich Nortje follow Rabada in the list.

In a nutshell, KL Rahul (orange cap holder) and Kagiso Rabada (purple cap holder) dominated the season and performed like champions everytime the situation asked them to.
