Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli became the first Indian batsman to reach the 9000 run mark in T20s.

Coming into the game against Delhi Capitals on Monday, Kohli needed only 10 runs to reach milestone and he clipped away a half volley on his pads for a beautiful boundary to bring up the 9000 mark.

The Delhi-born batsman started his 20 over career against Zimbabwe in 2010 and after 10 years of persistence, he became the seventh player to reach 9000. Virat Kohli was the highest run-scorer in IPL with 5,502 runs in 181 games, before he got into this match. His glorious T20 career features an average over 41 and a strike rate of 134 with five hundreds and 65 T20 half-centuries to his name.

The 31-year-old scored a half-century in the previous match, getting in touch with firm. Virat had to come out to bat when Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed off Ravichandran Ashwin. Royal Challengers Bangalore are chasing an overwhelming 197 run target set by Delhi Capital, Marcus Stoinis top scoring for them with 53 runs against his name.

Rohit Sharma, who is running at the 8,818 run mark in 333 T20 matches at an average of 32.30 and a strike rate of 133.91, is next in the running for the 9000 run mark.

Chris Gayle (13296 runs) tops the chart, followed by Kieron Pollard (10,370), Shoaib Malik (9,926) and Brendon McCullum (9,922).
