Sunil Narine was Kolkata Knight Riders’ wrecker-in-chief in their Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Sharjah on Monday night. He dismissed the Big Three – Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villers – to leave the Bangalore-based franchise high and dry. The Virat Kohli-led finished on 138/7 in 20 overs.

Narine, who returned with figures of 4/21 in his stipulated four overs, became the second bowler this season to get rid of Kohli, De Villiers, Maxwell in the same innings. The first was Punjab Kings‘ Harpreet Brar.

This is how Narine dismissed the Big Three:

Virat Kohli: Narine gave his delivery a good amount of flight only to deceive Kohli. The Indian batsman swept across and had a huge gap between his bat and pads. It was a ‘you miss, I hit’ scenario. The ball cruised through the gap and crashed into the leg stump. Kohli departed for 39 off 33.

AB de Villiers: Narine bowled a classic off-break and De Villiers played all around it. The South African moved his front leg across the line and played down the wrong line. Outwitted by the drift, the spin and the dip, the ball ricocheted off the pads to the stumps. De Villiers departed for 11 off 9.

Glenn Maxwell: Narine bowled a fuller delivery and pitched it on the middle stump line. Maxwell, who was left frustrated, attempted the big hoick but mistimed. The ball took a thick top-edge and went straight up in the air only for the shirt third-man to complete a match. The Australian international departed for 15 off 18 balls.

Apart from the Big Three, Narine also got rid of Srikar Bharat, RCB’s hero in the last match.

Narine floated the ball for Bharat, who pumped the ball straight down the ground. The ball was gobbled up by Venkatesh Iyer at long-off with ease. Bharat departed for 9 off 16 balls.

Talking about his performance, Narine said: “Today it came out pretty well, I delivered the performance I had, sometimes they (other spinners) do. I think bowling in tandem with quality spinners makes it easier. Today there was more grip than the last game, so the spinners did a good job. We’ll take 138 on any day, now we need to back our batters to get it. Need to look at the first 6 overs first and take it further.”
