Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) seamer Harshal Patel‘s extraordinary Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign ended with him adding another feather to his cap on Monday, equalling the all-time record for most wickets taken in a single season.

The Gujarat bowler dismissed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) openers Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer to take his tally for the season to 32, levelling the record held by Chennai Super Kings’s (CSK) Dwayne Bravo.

The Trinidadian had taken 32 wickets back in 2013.

Patel could have gone past that mark in the Eliminator match against KKR, but Devdutt Padikkal dropped a mishit from Sunil Narine near midwicket as the two-time champions went on to win the Eliminator by four wickets

But despite his contributions not being enough to lead RCB any further in the tournament, Patel has a season to remember. The 30-year-old took earlier broke Jasprit Bumrah’s record of most wickets for an Indian in a single season as well as record for most wickets by an uncapped player.

Patel also took the first-ever hat-trick of his professional career, dismantling defending champions Mumbai Indians earlier this season. His tally of 30 wickets in the group stage is also an all-time high.

Patel finished with 27 wickets in the previous edition of the IPL.

Meanwhile, Narine starred with both bat and ball as the KKR restricted RCB to a meager 138-run total before chasing it down without much fuss.

Narine took four wickets in the match – including the prized scalps of skipper Virat Kohli, Srikar Bharat, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell – the KKR spinners jolted RCB’s early momentum to take control of the match.

In the chase, Narine slammed three sixes off a Dan Christian over that turned the tide back in KKR’s favour. Mohammed Siraj the dismissed Narine and Dinesh Karthik in the 18th over to make things intersting, but skipper Eoin Morgan and Shakib Al Hasan saw out the win.

KKR will now play the Delhi Capitals in the second Qualifier for a place in the final on Wednesday.
