Mumbai Indians (MI) will be looking to shrug off Indian Premier League (IPL) playoff qualification fears with a win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. 

Both teams have lost both their opening match since the restart of IPL 2021, with both those losses coming against the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). 

Virat Kohli, India’s outgoing T20 captain and the one who will replace him, Rohit Sharma have both endured crushing defeats. It puts them on a slippery slope as the tournament approaches its business end.

While RCB are still in top four with 10 points from nine games, MI have slumped to sixth spot with eight points from nine games after their consecutive defeats.

The fact that bulk of India’s top-order batters, who are currently under-performing, are from these two sides, sticks out like sore thumb.

Going into the World T20, Kohli, Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are some of the batting mainstays.

While Kohli showed some form en route his half-century against CSK at Sharjah, his overall form has been scratchy.

Also worrying for RCB is their form in the UAE, having now lost seven in a row in the country.
