Delhi Capitals on Sunday completed their 25-member IPL squad on the final day of the auction. Shardul Thakur was their most expensive buy at Rs 10.75 crore.

India’s ICC Under-19
World-Cup winning captain Yash Dhull fetched a Rs 50 lakh deal as DC signed the cricketer. Punjab Kings was also interested in him but
pulled out of bidding at the last moment. Dhull listed himself in the auction
at a base price of Rs 20 lakh.

The Delhi Capitals bought Khaleel Ahmed for Rs 5.25 crore and Chetan Sakariya for 4.2 crore on the second day of the IPL auction on Sunday.

The team conducted some shrewd business on the first day of the on Saturday, buying a seasoned campaigner like David Warner for a relatively paltry sum of Rs 6.25 crore. On a day when the likes of Ishan Kishan (Rs 15.25 cr) and Shreyas Iyer (Rs 12.25 cr) fetched eye-watering bids, getting a batter of David Warner’s caliber – the IPL’s all-time highest overseas runscorer and a key performer in Australia’s run to T20 World Cup glory – for the amount they paid should make the Delhi camp very happy and the fans very excited.

It was a homecoming of sorts for the Aussie southpaw, as Delhi was the franchise that Warner made his IPL debut for in 2009, while also returning to the same dugout as Aussie great Ricky Ponting.

Last season, Warner played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he has been the protagonist since 2014, captaining the side to the IPL title in 2016.

The Delhi Capitals went big for Indian bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, spending Rs 10.75 crore on the 30-year-old. Their other buys include Mitchell Marsh (Rs 6.5 cr), Kuldeep Yadav (Rs 2 cr) and others.

The Capitals retained four players. The
IPL 2020 finalists need to build a solid team to win the IPL 2022. Under the
watchful gaze of head coach Ricky Ponting, the Delhi franchise has made great
improvements over the years. Renamed as Delhi Capitals from Delhi Daredevils in
2018, DC have done well in the last two years of the league.
