Royal Challengers Bangalore had to chase down a mammoth 217-run total at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on Tuesday to deny Chennai Super Kings their first win in IPL 2022. In a steep run-chase like this, Virat Kohli was expected to play a key role, especially after the former skipper came in as early as the third over. However, the 33-year-old’s stay did not last long. He fell prey to a plot set up by MS Dhoni.

Riding on brilliant batting displays by Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube, CSK defeated RCB by 23 runs.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had lost skipper Faf du Plessis (8 off 9 balls) early. Kohli came on to bat with a young Anuj Rawat. Facing his third ball, the side’s former skipper pulled Mukesh Choudhary at deep backward square only to find Shivam Dube’s safe hands. The batter was dismissed for one run, leaving RCB at 20/2.

Kohli’s dismissal, however, was plotted by MS Dhoni. Ahead of Choudhary’s ball, the 40-year-old was seen waving to the fine-leg fielder to move to his left, closer to where a deep square-leg fielder would stand. The pacer banged a short one on Kohli’s pads and like he had no idea that the fielder had moved squarer, the batter pulled right away.
