MS Dhoni returned as Chennai Super Kings captain after 197 days. The Thala was reinstated into the position after Ravindra Jadeja decided to step away after leading the team for eight matches this season. CSK take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MCA Stadium, Pune on Sunday. 

SRH skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bowl. 

Chennai have lost seven out of their eight games in IPL 2022 and are placed at the ninth rung of the points table. Jadeja decided to relinquish the captaincy ‘to focus and concentrate more on his game’.

“Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest & to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” CSK said in a statement ahead of the game against SRH. 

After losing the toss, Dhoni said that people will definitely see him the yellow jersey.

“You’ll definitely see me in the yellow jersey, whether it is this one, or some other one, you never know,” MSD said. 

He further added that CSK need to realise their current situation. The defending champions brought in Kiwi batter Devon Conway for Dwayne Bravo. Simarjeet Singh made into the playing 11. 

“We have dropped catches, those are the things you want to omit. Those are the areas you need to work on. We have a couple of changes. Bravo and Dube are out. Devon and Simarjeet Singh are in,” he said.
