Two more clubs have been added to the IPL roster. KL Rahul leads the Lucknow Super Giants, backed by entrepreneur Sanjiv Goenka, while Hardik Pandya leads the Gujarat Titans. In 2022, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli will not lead their respective clubs, CSK and RCB. Instead, the armband will be worn by Ravindra Jadeja and Faf du Plessis.

The ten franchises were split into two virtual groups. They were seeded according to how many times they won the IPL or advanced to the finals.

Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants are in Group A.
