On Tuesday, Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson scored an important run for the 2008 champions in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against newcomers Gujarat Titans (GT).

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson broke MS Dhoni‘s disadvantageous record by losing the toss for the 13th time this season in the first IPL 2022 qualifier at Eden Gardens. The previous record-holder was the Chennai Super Kings captain, who lost the toss 12 times during the 2012 season. The Rajasthan Royals have now lost the most coin flips in a single season.

Samson has only won two tosses this season in 15 appearances as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals franchise. In the 2012 season of the cash-rich league, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Dhoni lost 12 tosses. Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli failed to win 11 coin tosses in the celebrated T20 league in 2013.

Rajasthan had an unchanged playing XI at the Qualifier, Sanju Samson revealed during the coin toss.

“We have done well batting first, looks like a decent batting wicket let’s see what happens. Important to keep your focus on the present game and take care of what is controllable. We have been playing some great cricket throughout the tournament and would like to repeat it again I think the format is such that you can go here and there, but like to keep it simple and maintain our standards. We are playing the same team,” Samson stated.
