Should Umran Malik make his India debut soon? Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Tom Moody thinks so. The former Australia player said that the youngster was born in a Ferrari and ‘he is going to drive the Ferarri’.

Malik has bowled four of the five fastest deliveries this season. He recently delivered the second fastest ball in IPL history – a 157 kmph bullet. Former cricketers and experts are backing him to touch the 160 kmph mark soon. However, the 22-year-old has been criticised for leaking runs.

Moody, who coaches Malik at SRH, said that the pacer can never be a ‘line and length’ bowler.

“I don’t think he’ll ever be a line-and-length bowler. He’s born in a Ferrari and he’s going to drive the Ferrari. Given he’s a part of the Sunrisers family, that’s something I and the likes of Dale Steyn will make sure we communicate constantly throughout the year with the key people with him, at the state level, and also at the high-performance level, to make sure that we’re all on the same page, looking after a rare diamond,” Moody told ESPN.cricinfo.

The SRH coach added that Malik needs the right guidance to develop.

“He, like any fast bowler, will have his challenges, with injuries or whatever else, but the knowledge around managing fast bowlers and managing their aggression as they develop in their early years is a lot better now, so it’s a case of making sure he’s getting the right guidance, the right mentoring, and that he’s surrounded by key people who don’t overcomplicate the process.”

Umran Malik has taken 15 wickets in 11 games this season. His best is 5/25/ The problem is his economy – 9.10.

Harbhajan Singh, former India off-spinner, said that he would like to see Jasprit Bumrah and Umran Malik partner in the T20 World Cup.

“He (Umran Malik) is my favorite, I want to see him in the Indian team because what a bowler he is… And I don’t know whether he will be selected or not but if I was part of selection committee, I would have given a go ahead. Umran Malik should partner Jasprit Bumrah when India plays in Australia (for T20 World Cup),” Singh told reporters on Friday.
