The Indian Premier League has almost reached its halfway stage and the transfer window is around the corner. Unlike the 2019 edition, the IPL governing council, this year, decided to allow mid-season transfers of capped players. But how does the transfer window work, is it similar to the football transfer, which players make the cut – we’ll try to answer these questions.

What is the mid-season transfer window?

The mid-season IPL transfer window will allow franchisees to loan out both the Indian and overseas capped players along with the uncapped players, as well. Although the loan process became applicable on October 7, the window will open when all the teams have played seven matches each.

Last year, the IPL allowed transfers of uncapped players only. However, this year, capped players, too, can be loaned out.

Is it similar to the football’s transfer window?

During football’s January transfer window both the permanent and loan transfers are allowed. However, IPL’s transfer window will only allow loan signings, through mutually agreed loan fees.

For example, if player A of team B is loaned out to team A, then he becomes a part of team A. However, his parent franchise remains team B. So, after the season is over, player A returns to his team – team B.

Will the player, who is loaned out, have any restrictions?

Yes, he will not be allowed to play against his parent team.

Which players can be loaned out?

The players who have not played in more than two games will make the cut for the transfer window.
