Two-time Indian Super League finalists,
Kerala Blasters have been quite unsuccessful in the past three seasons, failing
to qualify for the play-offs even once. The team will however, start with a
fresh mindset, having six new foreign players and Kibu Vicuna as the new head
coach.

Blasters has lost quite a few important
players ahead of the new season with last year’s top scorer Bartholomew Ogbeche
and star Indian  defender Sandesh Jhingan
leaving. Too many new players along with a new coach can make it difficult for
the team at the start.

Having said that, the newcomers in the team
are experienced European league players. Former Celtic forward Gary Hooper
brings in a lot of experience from the Premier League as well, where he played
for Norwich City. Then there is defender Bakary Kone, who has played in both
the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League when he was in French club
Lyon.

Kerala, being a football loving state, has
never failed to turn up in huge numbers to support Blasters. This time however,
the team will miss the usual crowd in the empty Goa stadiums. Coach Vicuna, who
helped Mohun Bagan win the I-League last season, will definitely look forward
to repeating his heroics from last year, but with a different team in a
different league.
