Considered one of the favourties to win the tournament, the South American nation is now out of the Qatar World Cup. The 2018 runner-up, Croatia, did not have much hope of making it far in the tournament but their defense has been impenetrable so far.
The star for Croatia was their goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic who put up incredible heroics in two back-to-back matches. He first made headlines after saving all the penalties in Croatia’s Round of 16 clash with Japan earlier. Today, he saved a penalty from Real Madrid’s Rodrygo while another one from PSG’s Marquinohs hit the post sending Croatia to the semi-final for the second time in a row.

Veteran midfielder Luka Modric also put up incredible work for his team managing the midfield with Kovacic and Brozovic.
After remaining goalless in the first 90 minutes, the match went into extra time. In the 105th minute, Neymar dribbled past Croatia’s defense to score the first goal giving Brazil the lead. But the lead was short-lived as Petkovic equalised for Croatia in the 117th minute.
Modric was substituted in the Japan game before the star of the extra time as at 37 years of age it is hard for him to play with his full potential for more than 90 minutes.
However, he stayed on the pitch tonight against Brazil and also scored a brilliant penalty in the shootouts.
