The New Orleans Saints, as per multiple reports, have signed Jamaal Williams from the Detroit Lions. The running back, who signed as a free agent with the latter in 2021, is on a reported three-year deal with his new franchise.

Williams has reportedly agreed to the three-year deal worth $12 million with the New Orleans Saints, with $8 million fully guaranteed, according to ESPN.

The 27-year-old turned in a career year in 2022 with his primary 1,000-yard rushing campaign and 1,139 total scrimmage yards to go along with 17 rushing touchdowns. Jamaal spent the past two seasons with the Lions after departing from the Green Bay Packers.

The contract is potentially $4 million per season, which marks a slight raise coming off the two-year, $6 million deal he played under with the lions.

Detroit was ready to sign former Bears running back (RB) David Montgomery on Tuesday, which would pave for William’s departure from the Motor City.

Williams could have a vital role to play in New Orleans, with running back Alvin Kamara probably facing a suspension from the NFL due to an incident during Pro Bowl weekend in 2022.

The 27-year-old Williams dropped a heartwarming message for Lions fans on Twitter on Wednesday.

Across his six-year-long career, Williams has 30 rushing touchdowns, more than half of which he obtained last season. He’ll look to continue his dominance on goal-line situations, where he did most of his touchdown-scoring work in Detroit.

His career year in 2022 saw him break the 1,000-yard threshold for the first time, as he posted statistical bests across virtually every category.
