American Jennifer Brady defeated Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva in straight sets to reach the US Open semi-finals on Tuesday, reported AFP.
28th seeded Brady beat her 23rd-seeded opponent 6-3, 6-2, in just over one hour inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium. She will either play fourth seed Naomi Osaka or fellow American Shelby Rogers, who is unseeded, in order to reach the final.
This is Brady’s best US Open performance after she had reached the last 16 in 2017. She also reached the same stage of the Australian Open that year.
Brady has lost only 24 games during her march to the semis, the fewest among anyone left in the draw and is yet to drop a set at the 2020 US Open.
Brady raced to an 4-0 lead in the first set, breaking Putintseva’s serve twice while Putintseva struggled to cope with her booming forehands and ability to dart around the court. Brady smashed 22 winners compared to just seven for Putintseva.
