Jerry Richardson, the founder of the American football team Carolina Panthers, has died at the age of 86.
When Carolina received an NFL team from the League in 1993, Richardson became the second former NFL player to hold the position of the owner. “We are saddened to hear about the passing of former owner Jerry Richardson,” the Panthers said via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.
He is survived by his wife Rosalind Sallenger Richardson and three children – Ashley, Jon, and Mark.
Who is Jerry Richardson’s family?
Jerry Richardson entered Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, after completing high school in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Rosalind Sallenger, Richardson’s wife, also studied at Winthrop University in the late 1950s.
The Richardsons lived in North Carolina their entire lives. They became the parents of three children. They have a daughter named Ashley and a son named Mark in addition to their son Jon, who passed away in 2013. Nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild are also included in their family.
The former president of the Panthers stadium was their son Jon Richardson. He passed away in 2013 at the age of 53 after a protracted fight with cancer.
In 2016, Jerry Richardson made donations to establish the Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts on the Wofford College campus in honor of his wife of more than 60 years.

He made the greatest gift in Wofford College’s history in 2021 when he gave $150 million to the institution. With an emphasis on need-based monetary scholarships and opportunities for Wofford students, this contribution is intended for the college’s endowment.
His contributions to Wofford to date total more than $260 million, including capital upgrades. Mr. Richardson claims that Wofford has had the biggest impact on his achievement in life, with no other influence coming close.
