Jesse Lingard, the former Manchester United player who now plies his trade for Nottingham Forest, suffered an injury in the Premier League match between the two sides and had to be substituted as a result.

The United faithful did not forget their former player, and gave him a warm round of applause as he headed towards the dugout. Check out the video right here:

Lingard is a United youth product, and has been associated with the club since 2000. He was promoted to the senior team in 2011, but from the very next season, had been loaned out to various clubs. Before the 2022 season began, lack of regular game time at Manchester United saw Lingard opt for a move to Nottingham Forest.

Regarding the applause Lingard received from United supporters, one Twitter user said, “lingard getting a standing ovation is the best christmas gift he gets this year”.

Another commented, “Lingard comes off injured early in the second half. Finally gets that ovation from Old Trafford then.”

A third fan said on Twitter, “Lingard subbed and given a rolling standing ovation for his journey around the touchline, contrary to some harsh predictions.”

United increased their lead in the 87th minute of the match via a goal by substitute Fred, who tucked the ball into the back of the net thanks to an impressive assist by his compatriot, Casemiro.
