Fans accused CBS announcer Jim Nantz of jinxing Detroit Lions kicker Michael Badgley’s kick against the Buffalo Bills on Thanksgiving Day at Ford Field.

Nantz denounced the announcer jinx, as Badgley took a field goal attempt with 2:00 left in the third quarter. The Detroit kicker however missed the 29-yard kick.

Watch the missed FG from the player:

“Holy jinx by Jim Nantz. This might be the ultimate announcer’s jinx,” a Twitter user said.

“Hall of Fame jinx from Jim Nantz,” another one added.

Badgley had been perfect all season, not missing a field goal or an extra point, prior to this one.

There is a running joke/superstition that if an announcer mentions how good a kicker has been before attempting a field goal, the kicker will miss. As a result, the curse.

During the game, Nantz told Tony Romo not to bring up the jinx before adding what he said.

What did Nantz say?

“Do not talk to me about an announcer’s jinx with me,” Nantz said, as Lions fans everywhere braced themselves.

“All year, Michael Badgley has not missed a kick all year.”

Former Dallas Cowboys QB-turned-sportscaster, Tony Romo was beside himself in his reaction to Nantz’s kiss of death, unable to believe that his partner had thrown fate into the universe.

“I apologize to Lions fans,” Romo laughed as Badgley walked off the field after his first miss of the season.
