According to a Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) ruling, West Indies batter John Campbell has been given a four-year ban for breaking an anti-doping guideline, Reuters reported.

A three-person independent panel’s 18-page verdict on Friday came in response to an accusation of dodging, rejecting, or failing to submit to sample collection.

Campbell represented the West Indies in 20 tests, six one-day internationals, and two Twenty20 matches before JADCO accused him of refusing to give a blood sample at his Kingston residence in April.

“The … panel is persuaded to a comfortable degree of satisfaction that the athlete committed an anti-doping rule violation, namely breach of JADCO rule 2.3. …,” a part of the decision read.

“The panel does not find, on the evidence presented, that the athlete’s anti-doping violation was not intentional. In the circumstances of this case the athlete is ineligible for a period of 4 years,” the decision added.

Campbell last played for the West Indies against Bangladesh in a Test at Gros Islet in June of this year. He made his international debut in January 2019.

The left-handed hitter only averages 26.11 with three fifty-plus scores in 20 Tests. Nevertheless, his highest international innings came in an ODI against Ireland in Dublin in 2019, when he scored 179 off 137 balls while hitting 15 fours and 6 sixes.

The forthcoming T20 World Cup in Australia will see participation from the Windies. To advance to the main round, the two-time champions must get past the first round, which begins on October 16.

However, they were recently defeated 2-0 by Australia in a two-match T20I series, which put a damper on their preparations. On October 17, in Hobart, the Windies will play their first T20 World Cup match against Scotland.
