Indianapolis Colts’ star running back, Jonathan Taylor, has recently made headlines by requesting a trade from the team. Taylor’s desire for a contract extension has not materialized, leading to this significant decision that has captured the attention of the NFL world.
According to an NFL source speaking to ESPN, Jonathan Taylor expressed his desire to be traded from the Colts earlier this week. The reason behind his request is rooted in his quest for a contract extension, which remains unresolved despite his impressive performance on the field.
The news of Taylor’s trade request coincided with a noteworthy meeting between the running back and Colts owner Jim Irsay. The two held an hour-long discussion on Irsay’s luxury bus, parked at the north end of the Colts’ practice field during a recent training camp practice.

Following the meeting, Jim Irsay addressed reporters, choosing not to disclose the specifics of the conversation. Nevertheless, he reaffirmed his stance on the contract extension issue, stating that there are no plans to offer Taylor a new deal until after the 2023 season, which marks the final year of Taylor’s rookie contract.
While Jim Irsay remained firm on delaying contract talks, he expressed hope that Jonathan Taylor would remain an integral part of the Colts’ roster for the upcoming season.

Despite Irsay’s positive outlook, he acknowledged the complexities involved in managing contracts, considering the financial implications and salary cap constraints. The Colts’ owner stated that his responsibility extends to evaluating contracts and cap management as the team looks ahead.
With an impressive career record of 3,841 rushing yards, 33 touchdowns, and a remarkable 5.1 yards per carry, Taylor has earned one Pro Bowl selection and All-Pro honors.
