Jos Buttler finished IPL 2022 with 863 runs in 17 matches at an average of 57.53 and strike rate of 149.05. The Englishman’s tally is the second-highest in a season after former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli’s 973 in 2016.

In the IPL 2022 final against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday, Buttler made 39 runs off 35 balls.

During his innings, the 31-year-old crossed former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner’s tally of 848 runs in 2016. The Aussie had made nine half-centuries in 17 matches at an average of 60.57 and strike rate of 151.42. He did not win the orange cap though. Virat Kohli’s 973-run season was at the top and is the most a player has scored in one edition. The former India captain batted at an average of 81.08 and strike rate of 152.03 in 16 matches. He scored four centuries and seven fifties.

Buttler, too, has four tons this season. His latest century came in Rajasthan Royals’ previous game – Qualifier 2 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The Englishman made an unbeaten 106 off 60 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and six maximums.

On Sundaty, Jos Buttler was dismissed by Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya in the 13th over. On the first ball, the bowler went short off a length outside off. The RR batter tried to steer it down and edged it to wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha.

Going back to the dug-out, Buttler flung his gloves outside the boundary cushions and walked off to the dressing room with his face raging like thunder.
