After three accidents in the final 16 laps, Josef Newgarden won the 2023 Indy 500. In the last lap, he overtook Marcus Ericsson.

One lap remained as the race restarted when Newgarden got a massive run on 2022 Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson coming off Turn 2, surged ahead of him down the backstretch, and made it stay there. Since acquiring the speedway in 2019, this is Roger Penske’s first Indy 500 victory.
