Joseph Ossai was trolled after Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs beat Cincinnati Bengals, and advanced to the Super Bowl. The defensive end, on Patrick Mahomes and co’s final drive of the game with the score tied at 20-20, tackled the already injured quarterback out of bounds. The Bengals were flagged and given a penalty, which brought their opponents within field goal range.
Kansas kicker Harrison Butker made a 45-yard field goal to give his side the three winning points – a 23-20 win at the Arrowhead Stadium. Ossai, who was trolled on social media, was later spotted bursting into tears.
“Ossai lost the bengals the game bruh,” a Twitter user wrote.
“ossai cost the bengals the game,” another one said.
“Damn Ossai played his ass off and was putting in max effort on that play when he got the late hit. Just brutal,” a third one tweeted.
“I’ve got to learn from experience,” Ossai said. “I’ve got to know not to get close to that quarterback when he is close to that sideline, if it’s anything that could possibly cause a penalty. In a dire situation like that, I gotta do better.”
“I was just in full-chase mode,” Ossai said. “I was trying to push him, to maybe get him going backwards. I knew he was going for that sideline. I was trying to make him go backwards, get that clock running.”
Patrick Mahomes completed 29 of his 43 attempted passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns – one to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling and other to his favourite target tight end Travis Kelce.
