NFL’s two top quarterbacks Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills) and Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) face off on Sunday afternoon in what is billed as a clash of the Titans. Their teams are both 4-1 this season, atop the AFC East and AFC West respectively. Many are comparing Allen vs Mahomes with the legendary rivalry between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

Their clashes have not only scripted keenly fought, nail-biting games, but also displays of magnificent sportsmanship.

Patrick Maholmes is hosting Josh Allen at the GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas in Week 6 for the most closely-watched game of the season so far.

Here are some interesting facts:

First round picks

Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Patrick Maholmes of the Kansas City Chiefs were drafted a year apart in the NFL, both round 1 picks. Maholmes, eight months older than Allen, 26, was drafted in 2017 and was picked 10th in the first round. Josh Allen was drafted in 2018 and was pick 7 in the first round. From vastly different backgrounds, both the top athletes played baseball and basketball in high school.

Total domination

Allen and Mahomes have dominated the American Football Conference (AFC) since 2020. They are number 1 and 2 in passing touchdowns, touchdown percentage and total TDs. Also in wins and playoff wins, 1st downs and 20-yard plays.

Mahomes leads 3:1

The two superstars have met four times before today’s game in the last three seasons. Maholmes leads 3-1, a statistic that includes their epic clash in the divisional round of the playoffs last season when 25 points were scored in the last 2 minutes of the game. Allen and Maholmes played perfect football, but in the end the latter made a spectacular comeback from three points behind with only 13 seconds left in regulation. Kansas won 42-26.

Sportsmanship

It has been called one of the most thrilling games in the NFL ever. What made it even more spectacular was Patrick Maholmes delaying celebrations with his team to run to Josh Allen and giving him a hug.

Not always rivals

They don’t always play against each other. In June this year, Josh Allen and Patrick Maholmes teamed up to take on veteran’s Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers in golf – Capital One’s The Match. The older quarterbacks won narrowly.
