June 20 is among the most significant days in recent Indian cricketing history. It was on June 20, 1996, two Indian cricketing greats – Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly – made their Test debuts. Both these cricketers would later go on to take leading positions in the journey of Indian cricket. Fifteen years later, another cricketer would arrive on the scene, to once again change Indian cricket forever – Virat Kohli – on June 20, 2011.

The three have 28,543 Test runs between them and Kohli, 33 years old, is still breaking records.

Dravid and Ganguly, 23 years old then, made their Test debut in the same match at the iconic Lord’s Stadium in 1996. While the former batted at No 7, the latter came in at No 3.

The two shared a 94-run partnership for the sixth wicket and put pressure on the English bowling attack. While Ganguly went on to score 131 runs from 301 balls with the help of 20 boundaries, Dravid managed a 267-ball 95.

Virat Kohli, who made his Test debut in 2011, was playing the West Indies in Kingston. While India won the game, the star batter could not make much of a difference. He was caught behind in both innings at scores of 4 and 15. Dravid, who was also playing the match, scored 40 off 67 in the first innings and a century in the second

Rahul Dravid finished his career as one of India’s most successful Test batters. He scored 13288 runs from 164 Tests and 10889 runs from 344 ODIs.

Virat Kohli has 7240 runs from 86 Tests with 27 centuries at an average of 53.62.
