Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did not mince any words during the press conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League encounter with Manchester City. When asked about how Liverpool were planning to respond to the dominance of City and their latest signing Erling Haaland, the 55-year-old German gaffer said that it was impossible to compete with the Manchester side because of their financial strength.
Klopp commented, “You will not like the answer, and you all have the answer already. Nobody can compete with City”. He further elaborated, “You have the best team in the world and you put in the best striker on the market, no matter what it costs, you just do it. I know City will not like it, nobody will like it. You’ve asked the question but you know the answer.”

City were not the only club that found themselves at the receiving end of Klopp’s tirade. He went on to lambast other clubs like PSG and Newcastle, who are backed by money from Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. According to Klopp, such clubs can “do whatever they want”.
While speaking on the difference between such clubs and Liverpool, Klopp noted “What does Liverpool do? We cannot act like them. It is not possible. Not possible. It is just clear and again you know the answer. There are three clubs in world football who can do what they want financially. It’s legal and everything, fine, but they can do what they want. They will say ‘yeah but we have…’ but it’s exactly the fact.”

The 2018-19 Champions League-winning manager referred to Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth’s comments where the latter said that there was no ceiling for the club, which has been acquired by Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund. In response, Klopp commented, “There is no ceiling for Newcastle. Congratulations, but other clubs have ceilings.”
