Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Friday provided an update on the injured duo of Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker, both of whom hobbled off with injuries during City’s second leg clash with Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.

Speaking on Friday ahead of the trip to Wembley, Guardiola told the press that both De Bruyne and Walker would be assessed early on Saturday to determine whether they are fit for selection for the FA Cup semi-final clash with title rivals Liverpool.

“They [Walker and De Bruyne] didn’t train today. We will see tomorrow. Apparently, it will be so close after what happened on Wednesday but we will see,” Guardiola told the press on Friday.

“Kyle had a big twist. He is getting better. We will see in the next hours, the next days. In football these kinds of things happen. We will adapt, adjust and go from here,” the Spaniard added, providing some information on the full-back’s injury.

“Kevin had stitches after he had contact – it’s not a muscular injury,” the 51-year-old added.

Asked about whether Zack Steffen would start in goal for City over the ever-reliable Ederson, Guardiola said he would consider it.

“I am going to think about it [Zack Steffen starting]. I still have to speak tonight with the doctors and physios about the condition of many players,” the Spaniard said.

“Tonight, tomorrow morning I will decide but, of course, in the FA Cup I normally play Zack and that is an option tomorrow,” he added.

City’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Liverpool on Saturday comes amid an intense spell of games which saw both sides in action at the UEFA Champions League mid-week.

Despite the demanding situation, Guardiola emphasized that City were delighted with their situation at the moment.

“It is what it is. It would look like I am looking for an excuse. I would prefer more days with more than 16 players that we have right now,” the 51-year-old said.

“We are incredibly happy to be here. We are going to try and perform well against Liverpool which is not easy. We will try to do our game … We are top of the Premier League and in two semis. It is so great,” the Spaniard added.

The FA Cup semi-final clash between City and Liverpool will begin at 3.30pm BST (8pm IST) on Saturday.
