Kolkata Knight Riders made light work of Delhi Capitals in an Indian Premier League match on Saturday, winning the tie by a big 59-run margin. While the KKR batsmen – Nitish Rana and Sunil Narine – powered their team to 194/6 in 20 overs, it was Varun Chakravarthy, who made Abu Dhabi his own with his grandeur bowling performance.

Having finished the match with figures of 5/20 in his stipulated four overs, he was adjudged man of the match. His spell helped KKR beat DC easily at Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

Chakravarthy claimed the first fifer in the current season of the IPL. He also recorded the second-best figures for KKR
in IPL. Before Chakravarthy, it was Narine, who recorded the best bowling figures for his team – 5/12 vs KXIP Kolkata 2012.

The young spinner is also second in the list of best figures by uncapped Indians. Ankit Rajpoot sits on top of the list for his 5/12 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018.

Rishabh Pant (27), Shreyas Iyer (47), Shimron Hetmyer (10), Marcus Stoinis (6), Axar Patel (9), were Chakravarthy’s victims in today’s match.

Chakravarthy, in the post-match presentation, recalled the time when he switched careers.

“Around 2015 when I was not making much money as an architect, I thought I will try something else when I wasn’t able to meet my need,” Chakravarthy said.

This win also marked the first victory for a side batting first since Delhi Capitals’ 13-run win against Rajasthan Royals in Dubai on October 14.

Other than Chakravarthy, Pat Cummins returned with figures of 3/17 in his stipulated four overs.
