A horrific crash at Indianapolis Motor Speedway involving racers Kyle Kirkwood and Felix Rosenqvist on Sunday saw a car wheel fly off and land in the parking lot next to the race track. The tire left a dent on the vehicle – a Chevy Cruze – it hit.

Videos of the incident have gone viral. Take a look:

Rosenqvist hit the outside wall before spinning back onto the track and slamming into Kirkwood’s race car. Rosenqvist’s front tire hit Kirkwood’s back wheel and sent him spinning into the safer barrier in Turn 2. It ended flipping with his Honda riding the wall upside down. At the same time, a tire flew over the stands before landing in a parking lot.

Kirkwood did not suffer any injuries. The Andretti Autosport driver was released from the infield care center. Speaking to NBC, he noted how “everything happened so quick,” adding “thank God these cars are so safe.

“Glad I’m okay. Glad the car was super fast. But disappointed in that finish, no doubt,” he added.

Arrow McLaren’s Felix Rosenqvist said that after being overtaken, his car’s rear ‘came out right before the exit of the corner’ leading to him slamming into the wall. He felt something break.

With final laps to go, the Indy 500 race witnessed another crash. Pato O’Ward, who held the lead over Marcus Ericsson and Joseph Newgarden, when the race restarted was overtaken. In order, to get his place back with eight laps left, he made an aggressive move to pass Ericsson and chase down Newgarden.

O’Ward went down to the bottom but only ended up spinning and running into the safer barrier. Agustin Canapino hit the back of his car. A red flag was brought again with six laps to go.

Josef Newgarden finally won the race.
