Kylian Mbappe, the PSG forward, has now surpassed his own teammate Lionel Messi to become the youngest player in Champions League history to score 40 goals. He achieved the feat during PSG’s Chmapions League group stage match against Juventus on November 2.

Mbappe scored a sensational goal in the 17th minute to give PSG the lead against the Italian side. His age was 23 years, 317 days when he scripted said feat. This one-ups Messi’s record of scoring 40 goals when he was aged 24 years and 130 days.

The top-five in this list includes Raul (Real Madrid, Spain) at 25 years, 258 days; Karim Benzema (Real Madrid, France) at 26 years, 307 days, and Cristiano Ronaldo at 27 years, 241 days.

Messi is currently at 129 goals in the Champions League, which is 11 goals short from Ronaldo’s 140, the highest in the tournament’s history. The Argentine genius has a chance to close the gap this season since Ronaldo’s club, Manchester United, did not manage to qualify for this season’s Champions Legue, and are instead playing in Europa League, the second tier of European club football.

Mbappe has been creating a number of records since he arrived on the scene, including becoming the only teenager after Pele to find the back on the net in a FIFA World Cup final, a feat he achieved in 2018.

He is also the youngest player in Ligue 1 history to cross both the 50-goal and 100-goal marks. Mbappe has netted in 146 goals in 195 appearances in Ligue 1, making him the competition’s highest goalscorer in the 21st century.

The trio of Mbappe, Messi, and Neymar, who many thought would have floundered to function together owing to their massive star status, have been proving naysayers wrong and are connecting well with each other to lead PSG’s attack.
