Kylian Mbappe, the Paris Saint Germain and France star forward, scored two goals in France’s Group D match against Denmark at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar

He scored the first goal in the 61st minute from a Theo Hernandez backpass inside the box. He placed it across Denmark’s goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and it ended up inside the net.

He scored the second goal at the 86th-minute mark after Andreas Christiansen scored the equaliser for Denmark. 

France won the match 2-1, thanks to Mbappe’s brace and became the first team to qualify for the Round of 16 with a match still tobe played after two back-to-back wins in the group stages. 

Mbappe also created history with his goals becoming France’s seventh-highest goalscorer alongside legend Zinedine Zidane. He now has a total of 31 goals for Les Bleus in 60 appearances.

Olivier Giroud, who was on the cusp of history in the match with a chance to become France’s all-time goalscorer, failed to net one in the match with both goals coming from Mbappe.

He will have a shot again at the record when France plays the final group-stage match against Tunisia on Wednesday, November 30. 

“Kylian is an extraordinary player. He has the ability to make the difference at any time no matter what the other team plans to contain him,” France coach Didier Deschamps said in a presser after the match. 

“In addition to his great ability he is totally invested in the team and he’s made it an objective of his to win the World Cup,” he continued, adding, “There are different types of leaders. Mbappe’s a leader, he sets the example with what he shows on the field.”
