Celta Vigo put an end to Rayo Vallecano‘s winning run at home in La Liga as the two sides played out a 0-0 draw on Monday. After scoring the winner against Barcelona, Radamel Falcao was held scoreless by the Vigo defence.

The veteran Colombia striker failed to capitalise on his chances as the result ended Rayo’s five-match winning streak at its Vallecas Stadium this season. Falcao’s best chances came in the first half with a shot from inside the area and a close-range header. He was substituted in the 73rd minute.

“We had the most significant chances but couldn’t score,” Rayo coach Andoni Iraola said. “Their goalkeeper played well.”

Even after the draw, the promoted Madrid club is in sixth place, five points behind leader Real Sociedad after 12 matches.

Rayo, back in the top-flight after two consecutive years in the second division, were trying to win six in a row at home for the first time since the late 1970s. They had won 10 straight first-division league matches at home against Celta.

Meanwhile, Celta stayed in 15th place, only two points from the relegation zone. They have lost three of their last four league matches.

Meanwhile, in another Monday night fixture, Granada extended Levante’s woes with a 3-0 hammering at home in a match between teams near the bottom of the standings.

Levante are the only winless team in the league. The result extended Levante’s winless streak to 20 league matches going back to last season, its worst run ever in the competition. It had never gone without a win in its first 12 games.

German Sanchez, Luis Suarez and Antonio Puertas scored for Granada, who have two victories and have now catapulted to 14th place. Levante stayed second to last.
