Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has said on social media that LaLiga “continues to do nothing” about “racists” attending games. The Brazil international was reportedly the victim once again in the match against Real Valladolid at the Jose Zorrilla Stadium on Friday.
“Racists keep going to games and watching the greatest club in the world up close and La Liga continues to do nothing,” Vinicius said.
“I will carry on with my head held high and celebrating my victories and those of Madrid. In the end the fault is mine,” he added.
Javier Tebas, the President of La Liga, responded to Vinicius’ tweet on social media and criticized him.

“In LaLiga, we’ve been fighting against racism for years. @Vinicius Junior, it is unfortunate, unfair and not true to publish that LaLiga doesn’t do anything against racism. Inform yourself better,” Tebas wrote.
Tebas also shared an official statement on Saturday where the league said it condemns all forms of hate speech and it was following up on instances of racism at the match.

“LaLiga has detected racist insults from the stands of the Zorrilla stadium, published on social networks,” the Spanish top-flight league said.
“These facts will be reported to the Anti-Violence Commission and the Public Prosecutor’s Office for hate crimes, as has been done on other occasions,” it added.

The league also explained how it addressed incidents of racist abuse toward players in the past and said it will continue to fight against “the scourge of violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport.”
In September 2021, Atletico Madrid fans were filmed directing racist slogans at the 22-year-old outside of their Wanda Metropolitano Stadium ahead of a match against Madrid.

LaLiga reported the matter to the prosecutor’s office. This month Spanish prosecutors closed an investigation into racist chants by Atletico fans and said it was not possible to identify those involved.
This is recent to several alleged racist incidents in LaLiga this year and players are increasingly calling out for harsher punishments for perpetrators.
