Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was involved in a car crash on Tuesday morning in Las Vegas that resulted in the death of one person. Ruggs’ Chevrolet Corvette crashed into the back of a Toyota Rav4, killing the person inside, according to US media reports.
The Toyota caught fire and the driver died, police said. She was not immediately identified, Associated Press reported.
According to the details of the crash provided by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department on Tuesday, Ruggs was showing “signs of impairment” after he got out of the car. He had non-life-threatening injuries, Yahoo News reported.

Ruggs had a female passenger in his car who was hurt and sent to the UMC hospital, according to the Associated Press. Her identity has not been revealed.
There is no information on how the accident occurred or what injuries Ruggs incurred. Ruggs will be charged with DUI resulting in death, according to the police. It’s unclear when Ruggs will be charged because the inquiry is still underway. DUI that results in death in Nevada carries a penalty of 2 to 20 years in prison.
Ruggs, 22, was the Raiders’ No. 12 overall choice in the 2020 draught. David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, his attorneys, issued a statement on his behalf.

The Raiders released a statement saying the team is aware of the crash involving Ruggs. “We are devastated by the loss of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family,” the team said. “We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”
Meanwhile, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy issued a statement saying, “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim of this horrific tragedy. We will continue to gather facts and monitor the matter under our policies, but our thoughts at this time are with those impacted by this devastating incident.”
