Because of his religion, he was recently faced the brunt of many hate comments. After posting wishes for Mahalaya, which is also the last day of Pitru Paksha/Shradh, the Hindu cricketer became the focus of religious hatred from Bangladeshi Islamists. Mahalaya signifies the start of Navratri or Durga Puja, one of the most significant Hindu holidays, particularly for Bengalis.

Das posted “Subho Mahalaya! Mother Durga is arriving” greeting on Facebook, alongside an image of Maa Durga. The cricketer eventually removed the message after receiving such negative comments and replaced it with a new status on Facebook that stated, “My first identity is that I am a Bangladeshi, and religion cannot divide us.” However, several of his supporters also posted messages in support of Das’s FB post.
